Shelby County Lifelong Learning
A short history of development
After years of general discussion and several studies, a volunteer board
created the first class aimed at meeting specific industry requirements
and contracted with Ivy Tech to offer the course. Besides giving industry
what it needed, the class participants gained the initial educational
success to boost enthusiasm and confidence for further educational pursuits.

First class Fall 2001
Mission
To increase the intellectual assets of Shelby County.
The extended community to be reached
Shelby and surrounding counties - mainly teens and adults.
Planning partners include
Industry, schools, development groups, community foundation, and government.
Program partners
Ivy Tech, local schools, Blue River Career Center, College Cooperative
Southeast - any and all.
Present program includes
Volunteer board surveying and planning - one pilot class.
The future
Second class begins this spring; hiring executive director now.
