A short history of development

The idea was conceived by the Community Foundation in 1998 at a visioning retreat of community leaders. Lilly Gift III money helped to make it a reality along with a Community Focus Fund grant and other dollars through the City of Scottsburg.

Mission

To provide a variety of employment and training services to Scott County citizens for the purpose of enhancing their knowledge and skills to ensure maximum employability, self-sufficiency, and a higher quality of life.

The extended community to be reached

The Center is accessible to all of Scott County citizens who need opportunities for learning from basic education to college degrees through distance learning.

Community Partners: Scott County Community Foundation, Scott County Partnership, Scott County Economic Development Corporation, City of Scottsburg, Austin Rural Enterprise Community, Local Employers, Indiana Department of Commerce, Scott County Council, Southern Seven Workforce Investment Board, and others

Partnership Employment Services, Ivy Tech, Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System, Manpower Services, PMI, Green Thumb, River Valley Resources Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Scott County Literacy Council, New Albany/Floyd County Adult Education Program, Indiana Department of Workforce Development, College Cooperative Southeast

Present program includes

WorkOne Express: Career Exploration, Vocational Assessment Services, Job Seeking/Placement Support Services, Job Readiness/Life Skills training, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Welfare to Work (IMPACT) Services, Youth Future Skills Academy

Education and Training: Literacy and Adult Basic Education, Family Education, Community Education, Computer and Technology Skills, Industrial Skills Training, Manufacturing/Workforce Training, Management seminars/training, Distance Learning college classes.

The future

The Center looks to 80% utilization of training rooms by the end of the year, and fully operational Industrial Training Center, and future planning for nearby Technology Center.
