John Jay Center for Learning, Inc.
A short history of development
The John Jay Center for Learning, Inc. Advisory Committee met for eighteen
months to study options for the community. Their research led to the concept
of a learning center to broker educational opportunities in the community.
Research on the best practices as well as countless local studies led
to the following decisions:
- To drive the vision locally where local needs are understood best.
- To broker services.
- To be bold, innovative, and entrepreneurial in meeting the local needs
for learning.
- To create strategic alliances, collaborating with a broad variety
of providers.

August 1, 2001
Mission
To facilitate learning in the community that adds to economic welfare
and quality of life of Jay County citizens.
The extended community to be reached
Citizens of all ages in Jay County. (And border region.)
Planning partners include
Arts Council, Business and Industry, Community Center, Jay Development
Center, Government Offices, Hospital, Public Library, School Corporation,
Economic Development, Chamber of Commerce, Portland Foundation, Step Ahead,
WorkOne, and the Youth Services Bureau.
Program partners
Indiana Wesleyan University, Community College of Indiana/Ivy Tech State
College, and the Jay School Corporation.
Present program includes
We currently have 200 students enrolled in credit classes offered through
our Program Partners.
The future
The John Jay Center for Learning, Inc. will be a community learning center
dedicated to helping citizens achieve satisfaction and life-long employability
through learning.
