Name of Center

Hancock County CAPE Initiative

A short history of development

Our high-tech initiative began with the Lilly Endowment Inc. challenge to Hancock County Community Foundation to identify and propose solutions to the most significant educational issues facing our community. The Community Foundation, with the help of Thomas P. Miller and Associates, designed the tools to discover these issues. As Dan Miller, with TPMA, and John Carreon, President of the Community Foundation, worked with many community leaders and organizations to identify these significant issues, three main issues stood out clearly.

  1. The need for just-in-time educational opportunities for our adult population, as it relates to workforce development and general adult education.
  2. Technology information and training for adults and youth, as it relates to the ability to understand and use new technologies.
  3. Youth readiness for life and work, as it relates a youth's ability or preparedness for success in life and work.

Date of opening/formation

Our multi-pronged initiative is different form a single organization that simply opens its doors. The initiative was truly given life with the CAPE grant award in September of 2001.
