As President of Hancock County's Community Foundation since 1999, John Carreon is actively engaged in the development of both the county-based Academy for Education for adult-focused learning and the High Tech Academy, a technology program aimed at the county's youth. With an undergraduate degree from Ball State University, Carreon completed a Master's in Public Administration with a concentration in nonprofit management, in connection with the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy. He was previously the Donor Relations Coordinator for the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Among his nonprofit affiliations are memberships on the boards of directors and advisory boards of the Indiana Giving Ventures, Alliance for Community Education, the Set a Good Example Foundation, the Character Council of Hancock County, and the United Way Hancock County Solutions Council.
Dr. Riggs is completing 32 years in Indiana public education, having attained his Ph.D. at Indiana State University. Upon receipt of his superintendent's license 15 years ago, he began working in that capacity within the state. The past eight years, Dr. Riggs has been Superintendent of the Mt Vernon Community School Corporation as well as a leader in many community activities and organizations in Hancock County.
Dr. Riggs has been instrumental in implementing the new Hancock Hi-Tech
initiatives in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation, and is actively
involved in the creation and planning of the various programs that make
up the programming recently awarded a CAPE grant from Lilly Endowment,
Inc.
