ICN: Indiana College Network

Learning Centers

Introduction

The Indiana College Network (ICN) partners with learning centers throughout the state to provide support services for distance education students. These support services include providing information about the variety of credit and noncredit educational opportunities available to residents of their communities, access to the Internet and other technologies distance learners may need to complete their coursework and communicate with their instructor, and personal assistance from coordinators who have experience helping distance students conquer their challenges.

Some learning centers are campus-based with a coordinator located in a formal distance learning center, or with a coordinator who can offer services for technology dispersed throughout the campus. The on-campus center houses the campus one-stop office for degree-seeking distance learners.

Community-based or independent learning centers are unique because the state’s higher education institutions and Indiana communities support the growth of post-secondary education in hometowns, at home, or in the workplace.

Learning centers provide:

  • Information about the variety of educational opportunities available in the community
  • Information about developmental study skills
  • Toll-free access to communicate with campus offices
  • Access to computers, e-mail, the Internet, library services, video conferencing equipment, and fax machines for course-related communications
  • Assistance using technologies
  • Access to the ICN Student Services hotline
  • Test proctoring
  • Assistance locating a tutor
  • Coordinators experienced in helping distance learners succeed
