Those of us uniquely tied to the Indiana College Network (ICN) have been meeting for several years. Our interests evolve around coordinators, students, university and college staff/ faculty/administrators, financial aid, as well as the technology that makes distance education possible. We’ve been “making connections” with people and procedures through an ever changing world of technical advances that demand we stay in touch. Where would we be if we didn’t ensure everything connected?
This year’s ICN conference offers you key technology presentations that exist in virtually every learning center in the state. There is also the subject of money. Many students and staff both need to know about financial help. And, of course, the institutions are expecting the payments for the classes taken. However, tuition rates vary from institution to institution. We have a panel who will speak on the “home institution model.” These individuals will help us all understand the new agreement that goes into effect this fall, 2008.
By the way, IHETS is alive and well. The organization’s new executive director is the keynote speaker, and when you hear his words, you’ll understand why servicing distance education folks in Indiana has a very bright future.
Two almost traditional items remain on the agenda from previous years. The “Words of Wisdom” panel will discuss the trials, tribulations, successes, and “issues” that have confronted more than one of them during the year. Be ready to ask your specific question. What may seem unique to you, generally is not to the panel and other attendees. And yes, we’ll have door prizes at the end of the day wrap up, but there will be others given out during the day. See you in “historic” Madison at the end of June.
Friday, June 27, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. An optional pre-conference dinner (pay your own way) is Thursday evening, June 26, at 7 p.m. at the Key West Shrimp House on the Ohio River.
