Purdue University–Calumet is a regional campus of one of the Midwest’s great research universities. Founded just after World War II as an outgrowth of instruction in the defense industry, Purdue University bought its current 180-acre tract in 1948, and instruction began on the site in 1951 though credit classes were offered throughout northwest Indiana as early as 1946. Purdue Calumet embraces the land-grant tradition of its parent institution, devoted to bringing liberal, professional, and technical education to the people of northwest Indiana.

Purdue Calumet has an urban campus located just north of the Borman Expressway (I-80/94) and three blocks east of Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond, Indiana. Though all students are commuters, there is extracurricular life at Purdue Calumet in the form of over 50 clubs and organizations, many organized around vocational and special interest areas. And the Total Fitness Center accommodates individual students and numerous intramural team sports.

One can be admitted directly into Purdue Calumet by taking traditional college preparatory courses or be admitted on the Preparatory or Developmental Levels with lesser academic skills by showing potential to succeed in college. Purdue Calumet is on the semester system.

Withdrawals and Refunds

A student who wishes to withdraw from the University during any semester or summer session shall begin the withdrawal process by securing a withdrawal form at the Office of the Dean of Students, Room 207 Schleman Hall of Student Services. When a student withdraws from the university, the registrar will issue authorization for refunds in accordance with the existing policy regarding such refunds.

Students who take courses that are taught by high school teachers during the regular school day for concurrent high school and college credit may be asked to validate the credit through the College Board AP or Purdue Advanced Credit Examinations, as determined by the subject department.
