Ivy Tech Community College - Gary
Ivy Tech is a statewide, open-access, community college with campuses in 23 communities throughout Indiana. Campuses are organized into 14 administrative regions. The Gary Campus is located in Gary, IN (Lake County). The campus houses both classes and the administrative offices for the Northwest Region (also known as Region 01). While the service area of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana Northwest also includes Porter and LaPorte counties to the east and Jasper, Newton and Starke counties to the south, the largest constituency comes from Lake County. The Gary Campus has taken the leadership in training for each of the major areas of opportunity in Lake County. They include the steel industry, health care and tourism. The campus is also working with business and labor partners to offer training, skill enhancement and apprenticeship degree programs to employees. One major effort made by the campus to stay close to work force needs was the addition of the Lake County Workforce Development Office as a division and partner with the College. It is also actively involved in state programs that support the Welfare-to-Work initiatives. The Gary Campus has articulated strong course and program transfer agreements with private and state colleges in and out of the state of Indiana. The campus has also expanded its Tech Prep articulations to a significant number of school districts in Lake County. The campus also houses the Indiana Plan and the 21st Century Scholars office.
