Indiana University South Bend
With more than 99,000 students on its eight Indiana campuses; with study abroad opportunities, teaching exchanges, and research partnerships on five continents; with 400,000 alumni worldwide; and with its commitment to providing high quality education to traditional and nontraditional students, Indiana University is both an internationally ranked institution of higher education and a great public university. At Indiana University, students who cannot attend traditional on campus classes may earn certification, certificates, and undergraduate and graduate degrees not only via traditional classroom courses taught at on- and off-campus sites, but also via hundreds of courses available through independent study by correspondence and through such technologies as computers, the World Wide Web, online conferencing, electronic mail, CD-ROMs, videotapes, virtual reality software, and interactive television. Indiana University’s use of technology to deliver academic programs has in fact contributed to its being hailed as one of “America’s most electronically-wired” universities. Indiana University South Bend (IUSB), the third largest of Indiana University’s eight regional campuses, offers a well-rounded educational experience that fits conveniently into busy schedules. IUSB was founded more than 35 years ago in a pastoral setting along the St. Joseph River. Like the river itself, it is a focal point for the region. Nearly a dozen north central Indiana and southwestern Michigan counties look to the campus for educational and community services. For example, off-campus Centers in Elkhart and Plymouth provide a choice of popular and required IUSB courses via traditional and high-tech delivery methods. IUSB offers leading-edge instructional programs. Its faculty members have earned respect among Indiana University campuses for aggressively pursuing teaching excellence. More than 90 percent of the full-time faculty have earned the highest degrees in their disciplines. With effective teaching as their top priority, the 225 faculty members have garnered multiple teaching and research awards. Faculty members actively support undergraduate research, sponsor an all-Indiana University teaching excellence program, and take part in numerous outreach activities throughout the Michiana area. The IUSB student body is evenly divided between traditional-age college students and working adults who integrate IUSB classes into lives defined by families and jobs. Most students attend classes part-time. ***NOTICE: All students who claim an IU campus as their Home Institution and want to take a course from another IU campus must use the IU Inter Campus Transfer System found on OneStart. ICN will NOT process these types of requests. Please contact your ICN Campus Coordinator for more information.
