Indiana University East
With more than 99,000 students on its eight Indiana campuses; with study abroad opportunities, teaching exchanges, and research partnerships on five continents; with 400,000 alumni worldwide; and with its commitment to providing high quality education to traditional and nontraditional students, Indiana University is both an internationally ranked institution of higher education and a great public university. At Indiana University East, students who can not attend traditional on campus classes have several Choices in pursuing their educational goals. If they already have an associates degree, they can choose to complete one of four degrees that are offered entirely, or almost entirely, online. These degree completion programs allow students to transfer selected two-year associate degrees from area community colleges to IU East, with a minimum of additional coursework, to bachelors degrees in General Business, Finance, Communication, and Technical Writing. Also, IU East offers many classes online in addition to those that are part of the degree completion programs. These classes give all students Choices and flexibility in setting their class schedule. Finally, students can elect to take classes at one of several off-campus sites that are close to home. Indiana University East (IU East) began in 1946 as the Eastern Indiana Center, a joint venture of Indiana University and Earlham College. Ball State University and Purdue University joined the Center in 1967; the Center became an Indiana University regional campus in 1971. The citizens of Richmond and east-central Indiana contributed more than one million dollars toward the cost of building the current 192-acre campus, where classes were offered for the first time in 1975. A new library and classroom building was completed in 1992 and was followed by a third classroom building dedicated in 1996. The fourth, and newest, building was constructed in 1999 to house classrooms and a recreation center. In addition, IU East has off-campus sites located in Connersville, Lawrenceburg, and New Castle.
