Ball State University is a medium-sized, coed, comprehensive university that was founded in 1898 as the Eastern Indiana Normal University. In 1918, it became a state school, shortly thereafter named for the Ball family, owners of a national business concern who had donated generously to the university. Its 955-acre campus, barrier-free to the handicapped, is located in the residential area one mile from downtown Muncie, 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Ball State is on a semester system

Degrees available through distance education include a Baccalaureate Completion in Nursing; Master of Arts in Education in Educational Administration and Supervision; Elementary Education, and Special Education; Master of Business Administration; Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education, Master of Arts in Physical Education (specialization in coaching), Master of Arts in Technology Education, and a Master of Science in Nursing (Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Educator, and Nursing Leadership Tracks; Post MS/NP and Post MS Educator Certificates).

You are encouraged to apply early. You will receive priority consideration for the term you request if your credentials are complete and you meet admission requirements.

Second Summer Session: May 1

Note: Ball State practices rolling admissions; therefore, admission to a particular semester may depend on space available and the application date. When enrollment goals are met for each term, admission will close.

The course request and admission deadline for distance education and off-campus classes is approximately two weeks prior to the start of class.

$25 undergraduate application fee (No application fee for undergraduate nondegree students)
$25 graduate application fee for those who have earned a degree from BSU
$35 graduate application fee for those who have not earned a degree from BSU

Withdrawals and Refunds

Only a percentage of tuition is refunded for withdrawal from classes after the term has begun.

Advanced Placement Program

The Advanced Placement Program is sponsored by the College Board, a non-profit membership association. AP offers 35 college-level courses and exams in 19 subject areas for highly motivated students in secondary schools. Its reputation for excellence results from the close cooperation among secondary schools, college, and the College Board. More than 2,900 universities and colleges worldwide grant credit, advanced placement, or both to students who have performed satisfactorily on the exams, and 1,400 institutions grant sophomore standing to students who meet their requirements. Approximately 13,000 high schools throughout the world participate in the AP Program. More information about the AP Program can be found at www.collegeboard.com/ap. Dual Credit Options:
Guidance Office 765.285.8110.

Students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Science at the Indiana Academy have an option to receive Ball State University credit for these courses in addition to Academy credit. Students enrolled for dual credit will be admitted to Ball State University through the School of Continuing Education and Public Services. The advantage to students is that they will receive a BSU transcript that would be transferable to other colleges and universities. AP Biology will be dual credited as BIO 111 and 112. AP Chemistry will be dual credited as CHEM 111 and 112. AP Environmental Science, which is offered in the spring semester will be dual credited as NR (Natural Resources) 101.

Applications for dual credit can be obtained in the Guidance Office. A $25 application fee must be paid at the time application forms are completed. If you have other questions, please call the Guidance Office (765.285.8110).
