Tuition Discounts/Scholarships for High School
Students
High school juniors and seniors who enroll in the Head Start on College
program through Taylor University Center for Lifelong Learning will not only
reap the benefits of a special tuition rate for high school students, they will
also be eligible for a Performance Scholarship if they enroll at the University
at a later date. To qualify, students must enroll in one of 11 select online
classes and complete the course with a grade of B or higher.
Ivy Tech Terre Haute Demos Online Learning Environment
Learners planning to take Internet courses from Ivy Tech State College
Terre Haute are invited to attend a free workshop to learn how to navigate
the First Class online learning environment. Participants will get a tour of
the system, including demonstrations on logging-in, accessing course work,
and downloading and uploading attachments. The workshops will be offered January
5-17 on the Ivy Tech Terre Haute campus as well as at Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg
and the Hendricks College Network in Danville.
HLTH 340: Biostatistics Now Available Online
Indiana State University is offering a new online undergraduate course
in Biostatistics (HLTH 340: Biostatistics), which will prepare learners to
select the appropriate statistic to analyze data, and to correctly interpret
the results of the analysis. Major emphasis will be placed on application,
within minimal attention to theory. This is a semester-based course, available
both spring and fall semesters.
Online Certificate in Distance Education
Offered by IU
The online Certificate in Distance Education Program offered by the
Indiana University School of Continuing Studies prepares students to use technology
to enhance the learning of learners, employees, or customers. Modules include
readings, multimedia support materials, and individual projects that apply
distance education concepts to real-world situations. Graduate credit is available.
The eight-week program will be offered January 20–March 15, 2004 and
again in summer 2004.
Certificates Offer Specialized
Training in Ministry Fields
The Taylor University Center for Lifelong Learning is offering
two new certificate programs for ministers desiring specialized training—the
Biblical Studies Certificate (24 crs.)and the Missions Studies Certificate
(18 crs.). Through these programs, anyone can enhance their current
skills and acquire advanced and focused training that will equip them
for a more effective ministry or career, or prepare themselves for
a new one!
ISU Distance Learning: What's New for Spring
2004
Indiana State University is offering over 190 semester-based distance
courses for Spring 2004, including a variety of new undergraduate and graduate
offerings. Of note are:
General Education: Four new online courses in African and African American
Studies; English; and Music. Plus a new offering of elementary Spanish via
videoconferencing (IHETS).
Industrial and Mechanical Technology: A new cluster of online IMT courses
for undergraduates, including students completing the Mechanical Design Technology
Bachelor Degree-Completion Program offered through DegreeLink.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Health Sciences: Two new online HLTH courses
for undergraduates, including students completing the Community Health Bachelor
Degree-Completion Program offered through DegreeLink.
School of Education: Two new online graduate courses, including: CIMT 620
Instructional Design; and ELAF 607 The History of American Education
CPT 176 Introduces the Basics of Computer Technology
Students looking for an introduction to basic computer hardware, networking,
and operating systems should check out CPT 176: Information Technology and
Architectures, offered by Purdue University North Central. Successful completion
of CPT 172 during the fall semester is required prior to enrolling in this
second-semester, Internet-based, freshman course.
Spotlight on Vincennes University
Founded in 1806, Vincennes University is the oldest continuously operating
institution of higher education west of the Allegheny Mountains and north of
the Ohio River. Vincennes University specializes in innovative one- and two-year
academic programs. Students may pursue either an occupational or transfer program.
With a goal of providing educational opportunities to individuals who need
flexibility in meeting their educational objectives, the office of Distance
Education at Vincennes University is offering more than 200 classes this spring,
the majority delivered via the Internet. Vincennes University offers 10 associate
degrees and seven certificate programs, including:
- AS in Behavioral Sciences
- AS in Health Information Management
- AS/AAS in Law Enforcement Studies
- AAS in General Studies
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate
Vincennes University and Ivy Tech State College are partners in the Community
College of Indiana (CCI), an initiative that unites Vincennes’ liberal
arts offerings with Ivy Tech’s technical programs. The goal of the initiative
is to increase access to higher education. All degrees earned through the CCI
are conferred by Vincennes University.
