2004-05 Financial aid deadline approaching
Financial aid is available to certificate- or degree-seeking students
studying at a distance. As with on-campus students, it can be used to cover the
cost of college attendance, including tuition, fees, room and board, books, supplies,
transportation, and other personal expenses related to education.
If you are seeking
federal, state, or institutional aid, the first step in the financial aid process
is to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the U.S.
Department of Education. The U.S. Department of Education must receive this
annual application by March 10 of each academic year that you wish to be considered
for aid. After the application has been processed, the U.S. Department of Education
will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR), which will be used by your Home Institution’s
financial aid office to award you loans, grants, scholarships, and employment
opportunities. The types of financial aid available will vary by institution.
If you decide to apply for financial aid and need assistance completing the
FAFSA, you may want to consider attending the College Goal Sunday workshop
on February 8. Financial-aid professionals will be on-hand at locations throughout
the state to provide free assistance to students and families.
