Distance learning tackles the health care shortage
With the national health care shortage reaching critical mass, students interested in a career in caring have more opportunities in front of them now than ever before. ICN is currently listing an extensive array of degree and certificate programs in health professions and nursing, including twelve undergraduate certificate programs, two associate degree programs, six bachelor’s degree completion programs, and 6 master’s degree programs. There are also nine emergency preparedness modules available free of charge to public health workers.

Please note: The bachelor degree completion programs for registered nurses include only upper-level course work. However, both Ivy Tech State College and Vincennes University offer online the first two years of general education courses required for nursing students desiring to enter a B.S. nursing degree program.

Spring 2003 classes are now online
More than 2,000 courses are now online in the ICN Catalog for spring 2003. Due to the growing popularity of distance courses, learners are advised to select their courses and register early. Registration begins in October; dates vary by institution. And remember, new courses are added to the ICN Catalog daily, so be sure to check back regularly for additional course offerings.

Online course focuses on dynamics of parent-teacher-child relationship
Designed for teachers, principals, and agency administrators, Early Childhood: Interagency Collaboration and Parent Involvement (ELED 647) emphasizes the teacher’s role as partner, counselor, and community agency collaborator. Techniques for working with parents, children, and community agencies will be designed and evaluated by the student through action research in varied school, home, and community settings. Interdisciplinary study of community and school resources and services is an integral part of the course. Enrollment is limited; waiting lists will be available.

ICN ensures seamless delivery of credits between institutions
The ICN Credit Transfer Agreement was developed to help degree-seeking students receive comparable credit at their Home Institution for courses taken at other ICN institutions—and to have the credit appear automatically on their transcript at the Home Institution.

Here’s how it works. Prior to registering for classes, the student meets with the ICN coordinator and their academic advisor at their Home Institution. The ICN Credit Transfer Agreement is signed as verification that the course(s) to be taken at another ICN institution transfers automatically to the Home Institution and that credit applies towards degree requirements. Because transfer credit is subject to final approval by the school or department in which the student is enrolled, the student needs a signed copy of the ICN Credit Transfer Agreement prior to registration.
